THE FREIGHT MARKET MAY SLIGHTLY FIRM UP NEXT WEEK - CAPT. REDDY


COALspot.com: The freight market continued its down fall with BDI down by 6.83 pct and closed at 2,155 points.

According to Vistaar Shipping of Singapore, an experienced ship operator, all other segments were also under pressure with the Panamax index most affected which dropped by 13.83 pct and closed at 2,038 points and the Cape index was only down by 2.38 pct and closed at 3,526 points.

The Supramax and Handy size was also under pressure and closed at 1,389 points (down by 8.38 pct) and 788 points (down by 5.40 pct) respectively.

The Supramax vessels opening in Far East and India continued to be under pressure . The Supramax rates opening Far East was at around $ 13,000 per day delivery N. China and vessels opening in India was at around $ 14000 per day.

“The futures are up on all segments were up on Thursday/Friday indicating that the market may slightly firm up next week” said Capt. Reddy, Director of Vistaar Shipping, Singapore.

The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/$ 25,000 per day, Panamax/$ 17,500 per day, Supramax/$ 16,000 per day, Handysize/$ 12,000 per day.

The congestion in EC Australian ports was lower than last week at 66 vessels this week (last week 78 vessels ). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Haypoint / 1, DBCT / 25, Gladstone / 5, Abbot Point / 1, New Castle / 32, Port Kembla / 2 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting increased to 21 vessels (last week 46 vessels).

The waiting at Indian ports for coal vessels was quite normal around 3/4 days, except that the congestion at Paradip and Haldia continued to be uncertain and high at around 10 days.

The Brent crude prices was slightly down and closed at $ 84.33 (last week $ 86.10 per barrel ). The bunker prices also softened and closed  at $ 482.50 pmt (last week $ 499.00 pmt)  for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 19th Nov 2010.
