THE PANAMAX MARKET CONTINUED ITS SOFTENING TREND - FEARNBULK
Handy
Flat Atlantic markets with most markets in ´slow mode´ due to holidays in China.
Supramax vessels open in the USG are achieving low/mid 30,000´s to the Mediterranean and low 50,000´s to the Far East. Handymax tonnage ex Black Sea is achieving mid 30,000´s fronthaul and Supras low/mid 40,000 ´s. Nevertheless there are signs of much more fresh enquiries for the next weeks ex NCSA/USG/CONTINENT.
The immediate outlook is for flat/ stable conditions.
Panamax
The Panamax market continued its softening trend from last week seeing rates slip in both hemispheres. With the Chinese on holidays this week until Thursday the activity was very slow and few fresh cargoes entered the market. Tarvs now paying high 20´s while the Fronthaul with delivery Continent now gets around usd 36k. In the Pacific the rounds are paid tick below 25k.
The period market still alive on low pulse with owners not reducing their levels considerably - mid/low 20´s for short period and actually same for 2 or 3 years. With the late steep correction, some market players seem to maintain a bit of optimism upon the return of the Chinese.
Capesize
Last week showed definite signs of weakness with average TC rates falling abt usd 3000 daily from mid usd 47k level. The week opened down as expected, and with China and Taiwan on holiday the rates have plunged, presently averaging below usd 35k. The front haul has fallen from usd 29/30 level to usd 25.00 per mt for second half July shipment. Likewise has the level for ore out or West Australia. Here rates have fallen from usd 12.00 level to usd 10.25 per mt.
There is not much optimism in the market and operators who have been caught long on tonnage have swept the market for cargo, taking what they can get. The period front always has a tendency to lag the physical market and as such has been quiet, with the exception of an Australian miners concluding a 2-year deal in direct continuation of the existing charter at very low usd 30k´s daily commencing Oct 2010.
