China & India Imports
India become a largest importer of Indonesian coal in April 2010, overtaking China by around 1 million more coal.
India imports 16.68 percents more Indonesian coal in April. In the meantime, China's Indonesian coal Imports in April fall sharply. China’s Indoensian coal imports dropped by 42.21%. China brought 4.04 mln ton of coal in April compared to 7 mln ton coal in March, and 8.62 mln ton in February 2010.
Instead of dropped in exports in April “Chinese interests are still there and it will continue," an exporter from East Kalimantan said.
Indian & Chinese buyers are dominating Indoensian coal market since 2nd half of last year and it is seems that, the trend will continue and India & China will be major importers of Indonesian coal for this year.
Due to wet weather in Indoensian, availability of coal was tight against higher demand, which drive coal price of all types of coal to north. According to a coal buyer from India, Low GCV coal from Sumatra island is being offered mid $ 50 / MT for June 2010 loading and expecting to increase further. Higher calorific value coal is also seems to be increasing drastically in Indonesia.
Indonesia exported 5,041,849 tons of coal in April 2010 to India compared to 4,327,912 tons in March 2010 or increased by 16.68 percent MoM. South Korea, Taiwan and Japan have imported 3.42, 2.59 and 2.37tons of coal in April 2010 respectively.
Indian buyers are around Indonesia to book 6300 (GAD) Kcal/kg coal for June / July loading. Meantime, Indian end users are also actively looking for potential coal properties in Sumatra and Kalimantan islands to secure their future fuel requirements.
Top coal exporter
Bumi Resources as a parent company of KPC and Arutmin was a largest exporter of Indoensian coal in April. Bumi has exported around 4.41 mln tons but down 6.7 percent M-o-M.
PT. Adaro Indonesian, the single largest Indonesian coal exporter, exported around 3.32 mln ton in April 2010. According to our sources, around 10.88 mln tons exports done by top five coal producers such as Adaro, KPC, Arutmin, Banpu and Kideco.
Loading delays
The waiting at Indonesian ports for coal vessels was quite normal to longer waiting time in Month of April due to wet weather. Some coal producers have declared force majour in early April 2010, due higher rain falls which increased water level of river, that has affected barging activities.(cs)
