“With quite a lot of new deliveries still coming it will be interesting to see how the freight market will be affected. However it appears that at least for the first quarter the new deliveries have not affected and market has remained firm”, Capt. Reddy further said.
The average charter hire was at Cape $ 25,115 per day, Panamax $ 31,799 per day, Supramax $ 26,040 per day and Handy size $19,733 per day.
The Supramax index in the Fareast (S6 route) firmed up by $ 1,190 per day (up by 5.62 pct) and closed at $ 22,350 per day. The ECI/China (S7) route continued to soften and was down by $ 2,004 per day (down by 5.89 pct) and closed at $ 31992 per day.
The futures for three years (2010-2012) was at around Cape $ 29,000, Panamax $ 21,000, Supramax $ 18,000 and Handy size $ 14,000 per day respectively.
