Saturday, 30 June 12 THE FREIGHT RATES ARE EXPECTED TO BE STEADY TO FIRM NEXT WEEK - VISTAAR SINGAPORE
COALspot.com – The BDI was up by 2.66 pct (up by 26 points) closing at 1,004 points crossing the 1000 point barrier this week.
The cape index also was up by 3.03 pct (up by 35 points) closing at 1,190 points , but the Panamax index dropped this week by 6.11 points (down by 64 points) closing at 984 points. The Supramax index was up by 6.61 pct closing at 1,257 points and the handy size index was slightly up 1.98 pct closing at 719 points.
The Supramax freight firmed up from Indonesia to India and vessels were trading between US$ 8500-9000 for delivery South China for trip to India. Short Period charter rates for Supramax was around US$ 10,500 per day. However not much activities reported on period charters. The freight rates are expected to be steady next week.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 3,988 per day , Panamax/US$ 7,835 per day , Supramax/US$ 13,145 per day and Handysize/US$ 10,414 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 14,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 11,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 11,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,200 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 11.17 pct and closed at US$ 8,177 per day (last week US$ 7,355 per day) and S7 route was up by 10.45 pct and closed at US$ 6,750 per day (last week US$ 6,111 per day) . Both routes are likely to be firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia was at 86 vessels this week (last week 103 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/2, DBCT/19, Gladstone/6, Abbot Point/2, New Castle/48, Port Kembla/7 vessels.
On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 24 vessels (last week it was 43 vessels).
The Brent crude oil prices was up sharply towards close of the week on Friday and up by 6.75 pct closing at US$ 97.61 per barrel (last week US$ 91.44 per barrel) and bunkers prices also increased closing at US$ 575.50 pmt (last week US$ 565.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 29th June 2012.
