UNUSUAL RAINS TO HIT COAL EXPORTS
COALspot.com: Heavy rains in South and East Kalimantan have compelled coal exporters to delay or cancel coal exports. PT Bayan and PT. TIA have declared force majeure due to a high level of water either in mine site or hauling road.
“ Average of 20 - 22 hours of rains per day almost every day for last 5 - 7 days” said, shipping agent in Kotabaru.
Satui & Sungai Danau areas are worst affected areas in South Kalimantan. “Satui anchorage is also experiencing high waves”, said an executive from shipping services company.
“Unusual heavy rains in Indonesia, is likely to further shipping delays or cancellations”, traders said. South and East Kalimantan based big scale miners also affected by rain. However, they are still operating as usual except more waiting time for coal loading vessel than usual.
If the rains continues and the loading delays and cancellation of Indonesian coal shipments increase, then it could push international coal prices up from current levels.
Department of Meteorology Indonesia is forecasting heavy rain in Central Kalimantan and more rains in South and East Kalimantan in August 2010.
